Ragged Mountain legal battle gets October hearing date

A pretrial motions hearing has been scheduled for October in the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors’ lawsuit against the Charlottesville City Council over the Ragged Mountain Natural Area.

In April 2017, the county and the Board of Supervisors sought a court injunction to keep in place a county prohibition against cycling at the site, which is located in Albemarle but is owned by Charlottesville. The City Council recently had passed an ordinance allowing mountain biking on trails around the Ragged Mountain Reservoir.

The city, the council and City Manager Maurice Jones, who were all named as defendants in the suit, filed a counterclaim in June 2017, as well as a motion to drop Jones from the suit.
