Cooperative preschools worry about impact of proposed change at state level

Cooperative preschools across the state are concerned that a proposed amendment to the Virginia administrative code could hurt the viability of their model.

A cooperative preschool splits the division of labor between professional staff and “co-op assistants,” who are parent volunteers.

Dubbed the Proposed Amended Standards for Licensed Child Day Centers, 22 VAC 40-185 would require parents to initially complete 36 hours of training to qualify to work with teachers in classrooms.
