Local graduates look to continue community service after high school

For two Albemarle County teens, giving back to their community isn’t just something to add to a college application; it’s a way to connect with others.

Graduating students Johnny Riordan from Western Albemarle High School and A.J. Mincer from Monticello High School both got involved with programs at their schools that help those who are less fortunate.

For Riordan, that meant co-founding Virginia Together, an organization that encourages students to participate in activities with special-education students. Along with Luke Magargee, Riordan and dozens of volunteers have thrown pizza parties and hosted activities such as painting pumpkins and decorating cookies to help create a sense of community and friendship.
