Albemarle to begin talks on alternatives to funding water resources program

On Wednesday, the Albemarle County Board of Supervisors is expected to direct staff on how to proceed with exploring alternatives for funding its water resources program and whether a stormwater utility fee should still be considered. Supervisors last month called for the session that also will discuss how, after years of work, the county reached a breakdown in talks on the stormwater fee’s proposed rate structure.

Greg Harper, chief of the county’s environmental services, said Monday that county staff will not present any stormwater fee alternatives at the work session, but the board will be able to express its ideas about the future funding of the water resources programs and recommend that staff bring back concepts later.

“We didn’t want to walk in there with any preconceived notions and direct attention to any particular alternative, so we’re just going to leave it wide open,” he said.
