Life of Scottsville legend highlighted by museum exhibit

SCOTTSVILLE — Matthew Thacker always carries a medallion from a bottle of Four Roses Whiskey — just like his dad, Raymon Thacker, always did, keeping it in his pocket for good luck after World War II finally ended in 1945.

Even still, two years after the former longtime mayor of Scottsville died at the age of 106, Matthew Thacker still seeks his father’s guidance when those keepsakes aren’t enough.

“I miss him so much,” Thacker said Sunday after a ceremony for a new Scottsville Museum exhibit honoring Raymon Thacker. “I sometimes find myself in the cemetery looking up plots, and I say, ‘Dad, please aim me in the right direction because I forgot where it’s at.’”
