Seminole Square owners set sights on redevelopment

While questions remain about what will replace the former Giant in the Seminole Square shopping center, a company that is planning to redevelop the center off U.S. 29 wants to add two buildings to the 18-acre site that’s now fully bisected by Hillsdale Drive.

Kroger announced last summer that it no longer plans to build a 98,000-square-foot store at the site where Giant was, leaving Great Eastern Management Co. and its investment partners without an anchor tenant for its aging center in Charlottesville.

In addition to the two new buildings, officials with Great Eastern said last week that they intend to renovate existing buildings and improve the landscaping throughout the new Hillsdale Drive corridor. Great Eastern manages and co-owns properties in the shopping center.
