With volunteers scarce, county plans to add 5.5 positions to Scottsville Volunteer Rescue Squad
The Daily Progress Saturday, April 07, 2018 at 12:01 a.m.

The Scottsville Volunteer Rescue Squad could be getting more staff to support 24/7 EMS coverage in the near future.

In Albemarle’s proposed budget for fiscal year 2019, the county’s Fire Rescue Division has requested 5.5 additional positions to provide supplemental staffing to the Scottsville squad. Five of the positions would be first responders to support 24/7 EMS coverage and a part-time position would be to support the station with recruitment and retention. About $420,000 for the positions is included in the proposed budget.

“It really got to the point where we felt like there were no other options at this point other than to staff it with career staffing, but continue to help the organization recruit additional volunteers,” said Dan Eggleston, chief of the Albemarle County Fire Rescue Division.
