Suggestions to rename downtown Charlottesville parks are in

The city of Charlottesville has released the results from a recent survey to rename two downtown parks once named for Confederate generals whose statues are in them.

Following a petition submitted by city resident Mary Carey in December 2017 asking for Emancipation Park to be renamed “immediately,” the City Council agreed on Feb. 20 to collect input on new names.

The council also opted to include Justice Park in the renaming process.
