Proposed city budget nearly $400k over original ask

Charlottesville’s budget for fiscal year 2019 grew last week after the City Council decided to increase expenditures and fund several outside agencies that originally were not going to receive any money from the city in the upcoming year.

After a series of work sessions over the last month, the proposed budget for the fiscal year beginning July 1 has increased to $179,725,535.

The new budget total is $383,416 more than what City Manager Maurice Jones proposed to the council last month.
