Form-based code discussed for Rio-29 planning

About 20 people attended a presentation about form-based codes Monday night as part of the Rio+29 Small Area Plan effort.

Peter Katz, founding president of the Form-Based Code Institute, explained how form-based codes work and showed examples of projects that utilize that form of regulation.

Form-based codes are land development regulations that replace conventional zoning and are based on specifying the form and mass of buildings and streets in relation to one another and public spaces, as opposed to separate land use designations deciding what can go in a certain area.
