Charlottesville, VA – UVA Community Credit Union and Charlottesville City Schools will host a ribbon cutting ceremony on August 18 at 3:30 p.m. to commemorate the opening of Knights United, the credit union’s newest student-run branch at Charlottesville High School (CHS), located at 1400 Melbourne Road. The public – including media – are invited to attend the event, which will include words from the school district’s key players and credit union chairman of the board, Jeffery C. Moscicki. The CHS students who won the branch naming and logo-design contests will also be recognized.
Following the ceremony, key leaders of the project – including CHS Principal Dr. Eric Irizarry and credit union staff – will be available to conduct tours of the progressive new branch. Attendees are invited to stay and enjoy ice cream from our local Ben & Jerry’s.
About the branch
The Knights United branch serves the students, faculty, and staff of CHS. This new branch is the result of an educational partnership between the school and the credit union, in an effort to help students gain practical money skills. Students can open and maintain accounts and attend free financial education seminars conducted by the credit union. They’ll also have the opportunity to learn about banking-industry careers by working at the school branch and participating in related classroom projects. The branch will be staffed by credit-union-trained CHS students. Credit union staff, CHS faculty, and CHS administrators are already formulating exciting plans for new classroom projects and initiatives for the 2016-2017 school year.

Members who join the credit union and open an account at the Knights United branch will have access to all credit union products and services at any branch location, online, and with our handy app.
This branch is the credit union’s fourth student-run program. The first, started in 2008, was Lion Nation in Louisa County High School, followed by Patriot Pride in Albemarle High School in 2010, and later PVCC Campus Branch at Piedmont Virginia Community College in 2015.
