The Charlottesville City School Board will vote Monday evening on whether or not to extend Superintendent Royal Gurley’s contract until June 30, 2028.

A yes vote would extend Gurley’s current contract for another year. It would also give the superintendent a 5% raise in his yearly salary, bringing it to nearly $209,000.
Gurley’s current’s contract runs until 2027, which was voted by the Board last June. The contract also states that Gurley currently makes $198,699.50.
The Board votes on the superintendent’s contract every June, or the end of the fiscal year, according to the terms of the document.

The Charlottesville City School Board will vote on extending Superintendent Royal Gurley’s contract at its regular meeting at the Walker Upper Elementary School cafeteria — located at 1564 Dairy Rd. — at 5:30 p.m. Monday, June 17.
