Press Release
Literacy Volunteers Citizenship Class Starts in Two Weeks
Submitted Press Release | Literacy Volunteers of Charlottesville/Albemarle | Tuesday, June 26, 2018 at 4:18 p.m.

Literacy Volunteers of Charlottesville/Albemarle (LVCA) will offer a citizenship class for adult learners pursuing naturalization starting Monday, July 9. This 6-week course will help learners practice for the civics, reading, and writing parts of the exam, prepare for the interview with the USCIS officers, and learn about the N400 application. This class is specifically for intermediate-level English speakers.

Classes will be held at the Jefferson School City Center and are open to community members who are permanent residents (Green Card holders) and are within two years of applying for citizenship. Students are asked to pay $20 to cover the cost of the workbook and materials.

The class will be held Monday and Wednesday evenings, 6:00 – 8:00 PM, July 9 – August 15.

Since the completion of a grant from United States Citizenship and Integration Services in 2016, LVCA has continued to provide citizenship instructional services to adults wishing to secure their place in our community despite the lack of funding.

This is the fourth citizenship class LVCA has offered this year. In 2018, 23 adults have enrolled in a citizenship class and three have obtained US citizenship. Last year, 46 individuals enrolled in a citizenship class and 14 students successfully obtained citizenship.

Anyone interested in registering for this course, or getting more information, can contact LVCA at 434-977-3838.
