The University of Virginia North Research Park may seem like the North Pole in relation to Central Grounds, but mixed-use development soon might open the area to food, retail and residential.
Changes could propel the research park, formerly called North Fork, to the big leagues of university research parks, which are now viewed as revenue engines for universities. Expanding the park has been discussed for years, according to tenants, but Albemarle County officials say no official plans have been filed.
Foods of All Nations announced it will open at the research park in June. The site will have a café and hot bar and serve wine and beer, aimed at the park’s research and design and economic development employees.
