Lambeth Field rejected for softball stadium site

The University of Virginia no longer will consider Lambeth Field as a potential site for a new softball stadium.

At a Board of Visitors meeting Wednesday afternoon, the Building and Grounds Committee voted to table the Lambeth option and move forward with three other possible sites. The university previously had put the brakes on an ambitious plan to squeeze a stadium into the historic field after outcry from neighboring student residents and the neighborhood association for University Circle.

Colette Sheehy, senior vice president for operations at UVa, said that the architectural firm hired in December made the decision to move on with other sites after meeting with people who live near Lambeth Field.
