The Charlottesville Planning Commission voted Tuesday to recommend adding $175,000 to the proposed $24.1 million Capital Improvement Program budget for fiscal year 2019.
If approved as part of the capital budget for the fiscal year that begins July 1, the additional $175,000 would go toward studying how to better use public meeting space and evaluating the future of the Downtown Mall and preserving and planting trees throughout the city.
City Manager Maurice Jones will not present his proposed budget for FY19 before the next six weeks (the current year’s budget is $171.6 million), but the proposed capital budget and five-year capital projects plan provide some sense of how a small part of the general fund will be used.
