The city of Charlottesville will temporarily suspend its pilot parking meter program downtown starting Friday. In addition, parking in the Market Street Parking Garage will be free on weekends for the remainder of the year.
The two-hour time restriction for on-street parking spots downtown will remain in effect until the meter program resumes on Jan. 2, but street parking will be free. Parking in the Market Street garage will be free from 5 p.m. Friday through Sunday each weekend.
Members of the downtown business community advocated for the changes, which were announced Tuesday.
