Opinion/Editorial: Safety near school ought to be priority

They’ve made their case, strongly.
Recently, residents of the Avon Street Extended area — and most especially parents — advocated for pedestrian safety improvements.
They have the best of reasons: all the children who walk or bike to school, or would do so under safer conditions.
A Daily Progress photo from late September shows the problem perfectly: several girls dashing across the street between vehicles. There is no crosswalk and no sidewalk.
Albemarle County staffers, along with parents and other residents, are hoping to change that.
