Yancey committee will continue its work

Albemarle supervisors on Wednesday approved the continuation of a community transition group to help guide the county as new uses and services are brought to the former Yancey Elementary School.
The School Board voted in September to declare the school to be surplus property in order to transfer it to the county. By doing so, the hope is services provided by and in partnership with the county soon can move into Yancey, keeping it a central, functional facility in southern Albemarle.
Another reason for the transition to the county just months after the School Board voted to close the school is so Albemarle staff and officials can consider the building’s expenses and needs in the upcoming budget process
