Clawson withdraws from City Council race

The campaign of an independent candidate for Charlottesville’s City Council who had hoped to promote the tenets and goals of the Pirate Party has run aground two months prior to Election Day.

Cassie Clawson confirmed over the weekend that she is quitting the council race, narrowing the field to four independents — John Hall, Kenneth Jackson, Paul Long and Nikuyah Walker — and two Democrats — Heather Hill and Amy Laufer.

Clawson did not respond to messages after she said she was no longer running and planning to deactivate her personal Facebook page temporarily. Over the weekend, her official campaign website came down.
