Albemarle to pilot use of extended stop arms on school buses
The Daily Progress Sunday, August 27, 2017 at 10 p.m.
The Albemarle County school division soon will begin a pilot program that will feature extended stop arms on 10 of its buses in an attempt to prevent motorists from illegally passing stopped buses.
This proactive approach comes after the division’s past attempts to install cameras on buses’ stop sign extensions to catch those who violate the law.
Albemarle is one of two Virginia school divisions participating in the extended stop arm pilot program. The other is Fairfax County, said Jim Foley, director of the Albemarle division’s transportation department.
