Spate of counter protests, prayer services scheduled all week
The Daily Progress Wednesday, August 09, 2017 at 8 p.m.

For those looking to avoid Saturday’s Unite the Right event, there will be more than a dozen counter-events including prayer services, music and public education opportunities available — including a series of free lectures at the University of Virginia.

Ahead of Saturday’s event, Westminster Presbyterian Church on Thursday will hold a 7 p.m. prayer service. At 7:30 p.m., the Charlottesville Office of Human Rights will lead a presentation and discussion called the History of Race and Ethnicity in Charlottesville at Congregation Beth Israel, at 301 E. Jefferson St.

At 8 p.m. Friday, Congregate Charlottesville will hold a mass meeting at St. Paul’s Memorial Church, at 1700 University Ave. Speakers will include nationally-known activist, commentator and author Cornel West and the Rev. Traci Blackmon.
