Woolen Mills zoning ordinance moves forward at public City Council hearing

The wishes of a few dozen wary homeowners in the Woolen Mills neighborhood could be rebuffed by the City Council next month following the first reading of an ordinance Monday that could put new regulations on about 85 properties in the historic village.

Although a majority of polled residents last year OK’d the idea of a new conservation district overlay in the neighborhood, a few residents in a public hearing Monday told the council that they were ill-informed about the ordinance when they first voted.

A new poll organized by the city earlier this year shows that a majority in the neighborhood is now against the idea of implementing a new zoning overlay on homes.
