The evening before their departure for Ireland, the CHS String Ensemble will offer a farewell concert at the Martin Luther King Jr. Performing Arts Center on Thursday, June 22 at 7:30pm. Admission is free and open to the public, and the program includes works by Tchaikovsky, Barber, Dvorak, Copland, and more.

The next day, the 50-member group will fly to Ireland, where they will perform in Galway Cathedral, St. Mary’s Church in Killarney, and Christ Church, Dublin (see attachment). The mayor of Killarney will open their concert with a greeting, and in Dublin, CHS will share the stage with conductor and composer Vincent Kennedy, along with another outstanding youth ensemble, the Rathfarnham Concert Band Society.

"We are delighted to have the CHS represent us in Ireland," notes Superintendent Rosa Atkins. "The orchestra earns superior ratings from both judges and audiences, and they are wonderful ambassadors for our school, our city, and our state."

The CHSO would like to thank the Charlottesville community for its support of the tour, which is their fifth European tour. They have previously performed in Austria; the Czech Republic, England, France, and Italy.

The orchestra has developed an international reputation of performing at the highest level, receiving top prizes and superior ratings at competitions around the globe. The group has received media attention from The New York Times, Southern Living, The Washington Post, and National Public Radio, among others.
