'Innovation hub' planned for Main Street Arena site

New details about what is likely to replace the Main Street Arena and Escafe restaurant at the western end of the Downtown Mall have been revealed.
In a news release Thursday, media representatives for the company planning to redevelop that end of the mall released information about the so-called Charlottesville Technology Center, a new multi-use office building that will be located on a 0.9-acre parcel next to the Omni Charlottesville Hotel.
Although some residents are lamenting the potential loss of the downtown ice rink, as well as a music venue and its neighboring restaurant, a few local investors, innovators and entrepreneurs are not.
