Democrats pitch ideas at city candidate forum

At a Democratic candidate forum Saturday hosted by the Charlottesville Democratic Party, two candidates for the Charlottesville City Council opined on Mayor Mike Signer’s rejected proposal to decrease the city’s real-estate tax rate by 2 cents.
Amy Laufer, a former chairwoman of the city School Board who is looking to end her second term on the board early to become a city councilor, said she supported the mayor’s proposal. Heather Hill, president of the North Downtown Residents Association, disagreed with him.
The forum on Saturday included the three Democratic candidates for City Council, including council incumbent Bob Fenwick. The two candidates running for commonwealth’s attorney — attorney Jeff Fogel and Joe Platania, the current assistant commonwealth’s attorney — also met with constituents at the event.
