Data show little change in business tax revenue from Rio-29 construction

Businesses in the Rio Road-U.S. 29 grade-separated intersection project footprint fared well amid the construction, according to tax data from Albemarle County.
“I think the high-level view is that, really, we were very pleased to see that there was essentially almost no impact, negatively, when you look at the revenues for the area related to the period of construction for the intersection project,” said Lee Catlin, the assistant county executive.
Catlin said the county’s Board of Supervisors had asked staff members to track a number of activity measures for businesses in the area, which includes most businesses at the intersection and about a half-mile out along both U.S. 29 and Rio Road.
