Charlottesville city councilors on Thursday requested that city staff explore whether they can increase funding for a few items in the city’s $29.1 million capital improvement program budget for the upcoming fiscal year that begins July 1.
Earlier this year, City Manager Maurice Jones presented to the council a $171 million budget proposal, which represents an increase of $9.6 million, or 6 percent increase over the current year’s budget.
As it stands, the capital budget includes $23 million in bondable projects, such as a new Charlottesville High School track, renovations for the city’s circuit court building and work on West Main Street and the Belmont Bridge.
